Croatia warns allies of Serbian military buildup and offensive weaponry

Croatian officials, including Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković and Defense Minister Ivan Anušić, have raised alarms regarding Serbia's rapid military modernization. They assert that Belgrade is acquiring not only defensive equipment but also offensive weaponry, and have called on Western allies to exert political pressure on Serbia.

In response, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić dismissed the claims with irony, stating that Serbia's military buildup is intended for deterrence against potential aggression rather than for war. He criticized Croatia's own military acquisitions, such as German Panzer 2000 howitzers, as being equally significant.

Military analyst Marinko Ogorec warned of a potential regional arms race, noting that certain Serbian systems, such as Chinese hypersonic missiles, could reach much of Croatian territory. Meanwhile, Croatia is undergoing its own military reforms, including increasing recruit capacities and aiming for a fully modernized force by 2030.
