Croatia waste disposal investigations sought in Zadar and Polača

Local officials and political figures in Croatia are calling for investigations into alleged illegal waste disposal practices at multiple sites.

In Zadar, city councilor Daniel Radeta has requested that the police, State Inspectorate, and State Attorney's Office investigate the Diklo site. Radeta claims that over 150,000 tons of waste have been deposited there over several years, drawing parallels to ongoing investigations in Gospić and Benkovac involving organized illegal waste handling. He specifically noted the involvement of companies such as CE-ZA-R d.o.o. and PLATINUM Cars d.o.o. in transporting waste to the Diklo landfill.

Simultaneously, in Polača, Viktor Prtenjača, president of OO DOMiNO-a, has raised alarms regarding the Gornja Jagodnja landfill. Prtenjača alleges that thousands of tons of hazardous waste, similar to that found in the Gospić and Benkovac cases, were brought to the site managed by the Polača Communal Company (KDP). He has called upon the State Attorney's Office (DORH) to investigate the site to prevent potential environmental damage, noting that the landfill was permanently closed on February 3, 2025.
