Balkan region faces rising costs and severe weather shifts

The Balkan region is experiencing significant weather shifts and economic pressures. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, rising fuel prices are a major concern, with diesel exceeding 3.7 KM per liter and further increases anticipated. Additionally, heating costs for wood and pellets have risen sharply ahead of the winter season, alongside increased prices for seasonal vegetables.

Meteorological reports across the region indicate unstable weather patterns. Croatia is facing severe weather, including a waterspout off Rovigno and storm warnings for Dalmatia involving heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. In Slovenia, heavy storms and rain are expected, with orange alerts issued in some areas. Serbia is forecasting a warmer but wetter October, while Bosnia and Herzegovina expects unsettled weather with localized heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Infrastructure and travel are also being affected. In Bosnia, roadwork and construction are causing traffic changes on several major routes. In Croatia, the DHMZ is transitioning to a more detailed county-based weather warning system to improve local preparedness and civil protection coordination.
