Croatia wine routes offer seasonal harvest experiences

Croatia's wine routes offer diverse viticultural experiences as the country enters the September harvest season. The landscape varies significantly by region, ranging from the hills near Zagreb to the coastal areas of Dalmatia and the islands of the Kvarner Gulf.

In the Zagreb region, the Sveti Ivan Zelina wine road features the indigenous white grape variety Kraljevina of Prigorje, while the nearby Plešivica area is noted for family-run wineries specializing in sparkling wines and whites. Moving east, the itinerary extends to the hills of Ilok in Slavonia.

Other notable regions include Istria and Kvarner, known for varieties such as Malvasia, Terrano, and Žlahtina. The autumn season provides opportunities for visitors to observe the harvest, visit local cellars, and participate in regional festivals that celebrate local identity and gastronomic traditions.
