Croatian actresses find success with play inspired by cleaning jobs

Croatian actresses Iva Šimić Šakoronja and Gloria Dubelj have transitioned from working as motel cleaners to starring in one of the most successful theatrical productions in recent Croatian history. Due to a lack of acting engagements in 2023, the pair took jobs as cleaners to make ends meet.

Seeking a creative outlet, they began filming humorous sketches inspired by their experiences for social media. After producing over 90 viral videos, they developed the stage play ‘Iva i Gloria’, directed by Jan Kerekeš and produced by Kerekesh Teatar. The play, which premiered in early 2025, has seen massive public interest, celebrating its 50th performance within three months and consistently selling out venues across Croatia.
