Croatian animal‑rights group seeks criminal charges against veterinary inspectors as Bosnia tightens pharmacy oversight

The Croatian animal‑rights organisation Friends of Animals filed a request with the State Inspectorate to initiate criminal proceedings against veterinary inspectors responsible for the Dvor and Učka cases, alleging serious neglect of official duties that led to the deaths of dozens of dogs and cats. Coordinator Snježana Klopotan Kačavenda said, “In both cases the terrible neglect of animals was not sudden; it resulted from systematic supervisory failure.”

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, federal veterinary inspectors have intensified checks of veterinary pharmacies and a wholesale distributor after finding violations that could endanger public health. Inspector Vasvija Zubčević‑Kobilić warned that “improper sale and use of veterinary medicines can affect the health of animals, food safety and human health.” Eight decisions were issued, including bans on selling drugs without a prescription and on operating pharmacies without a veterinary doctor.

Both actions highlight growing scrutiny of veterinary oversight in the Balkans to protect animal welfare and safeguard food safety.
