Croatian art exhibitions honor photographer Alen Marić and mathematician Marin Getaldić

Alen Marić, a young Split‑based visual artist, opened his solo photography show “Pogled od doma” at the Fotoklub Split Gallery on 18 June 2026. The exhibition presents about thirty images of his grandfather’s last years in Sarajevo, documenting daily routines and the lingering effects of the city’s wartime siege. As curator Ana Žanko notes, the grandfather “postupno gubi vid” (gradually loses sight), turning ordinary habits into a fragile attempt to maintain control.

On 19 June 2026, Dubrovnik’s Kneževo dvor hosted the exhibition “Marin Getaldić: o 400. obljetnici njegove smrti”, curated by museum adviser Ivona Michl. It marks the 400th anniversary of the death of the 17th‑century mathematician and physicist Marin Getaldić, whom the city has proclaimed the “Year of Marin Getaldić”. The display traces his scientific output, his service to the Republic of Dubrovnik, and the European reception of his work from Italy to England, while also offering limited‑edition souvenir items made from recycled marine plastic.
