Croatian athletes miss European Athletics finals in Birmingham
Croatian athletes Nina Vuković and Veronika Drljačić failed to reach the finals at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
In the women's 800 metres, Nina Vuković finished seventh in her semifinal heat with a time of 1:59.10. She competed in a fast heat featuring Keely Hodgkinson, who won with 1:57.38, and Femke Broeders-Bol, who finished second in 1:57.46. Despite the competitive field, Vuković's performance placed her 12th overall in Europe.
In the 400 metres, Veronika Drljačić finished seventh in her semifinal heat with a season-best time of 51.61 seconds, ranking 19th overall among the 24 sprinters.
The 800 metres semifinals also saw controversy when favorite Audrey Werro fell during the final bend following contact with Anais Bourgoin. Following a review, Werro and Gabija Galvydyte were both included in the final, resulting in a 10-woman field for the championship race.
