Croatian authors promote literacy and science through children's books

Various literary and educational events held in Croatia are focusing on engaging young readers through specialized children's literature.

In Virovitica, physicist and professor Nikola Poljak presented a series of picture books designed to introduce basic scientific concepts, such as mechanics, to children. The initiative aims to demystify physics by breaking down complex topics into simple, illustrated terms to foster early interest in science. The presentation included interactive experiments using balloons to encourage hands-on learning.

At the Regenerator Urban Culture Center, author Igor Rajki introduced his picture book ‘Vjetrohod’ to preschool and early school-aged children. The book explores how people perceive and describe the world through the lens of wind. The session included interactive reading and a drawing workshop to stimulate children's imagination and vocabulary development. These activities are part of the ‘Read to Me! – Stories Around the City’ program, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media, Krapina-Zagorje County, and the City of Zabok.
