Croatia faces severe highway congestion during extended weekend

During the extended weekend, traffic on Croatia’s main highways intensified dramatically. The Croatian Auto Club (HAK) warned that very dense traffic was expected on the A1 Zagreb–Ploče–Karamatići, A2 Zagreb–Macelj, A6 Rijeka–Zagreb, the Istrian ipsilon, state roads through Lika and Gorski kotar, and the Krk bridge, as well as at ferry ports. HAK urged drivers to “adjust speed and driving style to road conditions and keep a safe distance.”

Additional disruptions included a traffic accident that closed the A11 Zagreb–Sisak segment, and a broken excavator at the Vjesnik construction site that kept Slavonska Avenue closed until a replacement part arrives. The HAK also noted temporary lane restrictions on the A1 between Ogulin and the Lučko toll plaza, and advised motorists to monitor road conditions via HAK’s website or app before traveling.

Overall, drivers were advised to plan for possible delays, use alternative routes where indicated, and stay informed of evolving road conditions throughout the weekend.
