Croatian businesses call for tax relief and protest new regulations

Business groups and industry associations in Croatia are calling for significant regulatory and tax relief. The HUP Coordination of Coffee Producers, Processors and Distributors has requested the abolition of a special tax on coffee. Currently, roasted coffee is taxed at €0.80 per kilogram, while extracts and concentrates are taxed at €2.65 per kilogram. The Croatian Employers’ Association argues that removing this levy would reduce administrative and financial burdens on companies.

Separately, a protest has been organized in Zagreb for October 10th. Traders, entrepreneurs, and private landlords are demonstrating against new government regulations, including tourism reforms and ‘anchor price’ rules. Under the new mandate, service providers must display both current prices and prices from September 10th. Business owners have expressed concerns regarding the increased costs of updating price lists and the potential for heavy fines, which range from €3,000 to €30,000 for non-compliance.
