Croatian businessman Željko Kerum's nephew Igor Sapunar placed in pre‑trial detention

Igor Sapunar, the nephew of former mayor and businessman Željko Kerum, was ordered by the Split County Court to serve a one‑month investigative detention. The judge accepted USKOK’s request, citing a risk that Sapunar could influence witnesses. USKOK’s deputy director Natalija Petković said the decision applied only to Sapunar because there was no basis to detain the other two accused.

Kerum and former Kaštela city official Andrija Polić were released pending further investigation into alleged abuse of position and illegal construction related to the Pršut tavern case. Investigators have identified four witnesses for Sapunar’s interview, while no witness tampering evidence was found for Kerum or Polić. The probe continues into possible facilitation of illegal building permits and the alleged pressure on a young adviser.
