Croatian cherry tomato prices stay high as domestic supply remains limited

Cherry tomatoes in Croatia are selling at roughly €15 (about $17) per kilogram, far higher than standard tomatoes. The price is driven by very limited domestic production; according to Pero Pušić, president of the Črleno srce tomato producers' association, Croatia has little tradition of growing or consuming cherry tomatoes and the fruit requires more labour‑intensive harvesting, storage and packaging.

Domestic cherry tomatoes are mostly sold in 200‑250 g packs, while imported varieties—particularly from Morocco—are available at about €8 per kilogram. Overall tomato production in Croatia rose 60 % last year, but cherry‑tomato output is not tracked separately, and officials see no sign of prices falling soon.
