Croatian cities host blood donation drives for World Blood Donor Day

In Rijeka, the Zamet sports hall held a large voluntary blood‑donation event organized by the City Red Cross and local donor groups. A total of 102 people gave blood, producing 84 units. Triple European karate champion Ema Sgardelli attended, urging people to donate and stressing that “a small amount of time can mean a whole life” for recipients.

In Pula, the municipal palace hosted a similar drive on 3 June 2026 in cooperation with the Pula Red Cross. The event attracted city employees and public‑sector staff, collecting 21 units of blood. Among the donors was a veteran who made his 124th donation. Both events were timed around World Blood Donor Day (14 June) to raise awareness of the need for a stable blood supply.

These initiatives highlight community participation and the role of public figures in promoting blood safety and availability across Croatia.
