Croatian cities increase social protection spending

Several Croatian cities are significantly increasing their budget allocations for social protection. According to recent budget execution data, Đurđevac and Duga Resa have emerged as leaders in this sector.

Đurđevac ranks second among Croatian cities for social protection spending per capita, at 953.66 euros. The city also holds the fourth highest position regarding the percentage of its total budget dedicated to social welfare, at 29.38 percent. Notably, the city saw a 428.37 percent increase in spending compared to 2024. A major recent project includes the Center for the Elderly in Đurđevac, a facility valued at nearly 9.73 million euros.

Duga Resa has demonstrated a massive surge in social spending, with an 812.49 percent increase in 2025 compared to the previous year. The city allocated 4,818,864 euros for social protection, ranking second in Croatia for the percentage of the total budget used for these purposes (36.42 percent). The city's social policy focuses on direct financial support, housing for young people, and care systems for the elderly and disabled.
