Hajduk signs Marin Šotiček ahead of Pafos clash
Hajduk Split completed a loan signing of 21‑year‑old winger Marin Šotiček from Swiss club FC Basel until the end of the season, with an option to purchase. Šotiček, born in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, progressed through the youth schools of Zrinski (Ozlja) and Vinogradar (Mladina) before joining NK Lokomotiva’s academy in 2016. He made 46 senior appearances for Lokomotiva, scoring nine goals and providing one assist, and later played 69 matches for Basel, netting seven goals with four assists. He is a regular for Croatia’s U‑21 side, earning 20 caps and scoring three goals. Sports director Robert Graf praised the move, saying Šotiček’s speed, one‑on‑one ability and pressing fit Hajduk’s style and will strengthen the wing positions.
Hajduk’s next task is the second leg of their Europa League qualifying tie against Cypriot side Pafos FC in Limassol. The Croatians hold a 2‑0 advantage from the first leg, secured by goals from Michele Šego and Dario Melnjak. The team will be without forward Roko Brajković, who suffered a serious knee‑ligament injury that ends his season. Coach Gonzalo García expects the squad to protect the lead and advance to the next round.
