Croatian football highlights Poljud history and V Arena development

The Poljud Stadium in Split marks a significant historical milestone in Croatian football. On September 19, 1979, Hajduk Split played its inaugural match at the venue, which was built for the Mediterranean Games. In a European Cup first-round match against Trabzonspor, Hajduk secured a 1-0 victory with a penalty goal by Boro Primorac. Despite the win, the performance was met with mixed reactions from fans and coaching staff regarding the team's play style.

In more recent football developments, the V Arena in the village of Vardarac has drawn attention. The facility, which cost 7.3 million euros and was co-funded by the governments of Croatia and Hungary, serves the fourth-division club Vardarac. The stadium recently hosted a Croatian Cup match between Vardarac and Hajduk Split, attracting over 1,000 spectators to a venue designed to provide high-quality sporting conditions for local youth in the Baranja region.
