Croatia allocates EU recovery funds for school rebuilds and sports halls

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and other officials have overseen a series of contracts funded largely by the EU‑backed National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO). The programme supports the reconstruction and expansion of dozens of primary schools and the construction of sports halls across Croatia. Highlights include:

• A new €2.5 million sports hall opened in the Hungarian‑minority village of Korođ in Vukovar‑Syrmia, fully financed by the state and bilateral minority‑protection funds.

• A €4.5 million contract for a new school building and sports hall in the Bročica area of Sisak‑Moslavina, with €3.2 million covered by NPOO grants.

• Over €29 million allocated to five school projects in Zagreb County, including extensions at OŠ Dubrava, OŠ Ksaver Šandor Đalski, OŠ Jakovlje and PŠ Nespeš, with nearly €19 million from the recovery fund.

• Grants for the reconstruction of the III. elementary school in Čakovec (total project value €5.4 million) and new facilities in Zadar municipality (contracts of €11.9 million for Voštarnica and €20.8 million for Plovanija).

• A partnership agreement for a new school building in Sinj, backed by regional and national funds.

These investments aim to eliminate single‑shift schooling, enable full‑day education, and improve sports and cultural facilities for students nationwide.
