Croatian health institute confirms water safety in Lika-Senj, Pag, and Rab
The Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) has confirmed that tap water in the Lika-Senj County and on the islands of Pag and Rab is safe and healthy for drinking. Recent analyses conducted between September 21 and 24 involved 29 samples taken from various supply zones, including Gospić 1, Senj, Tonkovića Vrilo, Mrđenovac, Novalja, Povljana, Pag, and Rab.
Testing specifically targeted PFAS compounds, and no concentrations above the limit of determination were found in any sample. Out of 150 total samples analyzed to date, results consistently confirm the safety of the water distributed by the public supplier. While one sample showed elevated iron and another showed elevated aluminum, the water remains within safety standards.
Additionally, the HZJZ analyzed raw, untreated water from the Mrđenovac, Tonkovića Vrilo, and Hrmotine sources. While raw water showed typical microbiological deviations expected for untreated sources, the HZJZ clarified that this water undergoes treatment and disinfection before entering the public supply system, ensuring it is microbiologically and chemically correct at the point of consumption.
