Extended high temperatures and drought across Croatia are threatening agricultural output. Vineyard growers warn that without rain the grape harvest could be markedly reduced and the season may start earlier than usual. They note that a single heavy rain on 3 July delivered only 18 litres and was described as a “lifesaver” for the vines.

Livestock farmers report that cattle, sheep and other animals are drinking almost twice the usual amount of water, leading to higher production costs. Heat stress has cut milk yields by up to 30 % and egg production is expected to fall 20‑30 %. In Donja Gračenica more than ten young animals drowned in mud because surface water was the only source available.

Wildlife is also suffering. Rewilding Velebit has transported 16 000 litres of water to four drinking points on the mountain to support bears, foxes, wild boar and other species. Health experts advise staying hydrated with water, limiting alcohol and, where possible, using electrolyte‑rich drinks to avoid dehydration and heat‑related illness.
