Croatian households' financial assets rise to €120 bn while debts hit €32 bn
The Croatian National Bank reported that at the end of the first quarter of 2026 household financial assets reached €120 billion, an increase of €9.6 billion (8.8%) from a year earlier and 0.8% above the previous quarter. Household liabilities grew to €32 billion, up €3.5 billion (12.2%) year‑over‑year and 2.6% quarter‑over‑quarter. These movements raised the net financial wealth of the household sector to €87.5 billion, a 0.1% rise from the prior quarter and 7.6% higher than a year ago.
Across the whole economy, total financial assets amounted to €517 billion, up €5.5 billion from the previous quarter and €34.5 billion from a year earlier. Total financial liabilities were €546 billion, increasing €7.7 billion quarter‑over‑quarter and €34.1 billion year‑over‑year. Assets represent 547% of annual GDP, down 3.4 percentage points quarter‑over‑quarter and 8.2 points year‑over‑year, while liabilities stand at 577% of GDP, down 1.5 points quarter‑over‑quarter and 11.3 points year‑over‑year. Non‑financial corporate assets totaled €151 billion, a 0.5% rise, and their liabilities €234 billion, up 1.2%. The net financial position of non‑financial corporations remained negative at €‑83.2 billion, 1.9 billion less than the previous quarter.
