Croatian households save electricity by using fans over air conditioners

A typical 50‑watt standing fan running eight hours a day for a month uses about 12 kWh, adding roughly €1.80 to the electricity bill; a 75‑watt model costs around €2.70. By contrast, modern inverter air‑conditioners that run the same eight hours daily usually consume €15‑€25 per month, with older, less efficient units costing considerably more. The difference means fans can be up to ten times cheaper to operate, though they only circulate air while AC units actually lower room temperature. Online discussions in Croatia also note that keeping an inverter AC on continuously and letting it maintain the set temperature can keep monthly costs around €20, comparable to the price of two pizzas, and avoids temperature shocks for vulnerable users.
