Krk and Cres island festivals draw crowds with medieval pageants and traditional foods

The Lovrečeva festival on the island of Krk runs from 8 to 10 August. It opens with a large medieval procession of the Frankopan knights, followed by the Krk market featuring around 40 exhibitors of hand‑crafted goods, natural cosmetics, ceramics, jewelry and local food products such as olive oil, cheese and sweets. The program includes a fire‑show, workshops for children and adults, storytelling walks, a children’s play about the Frankopans and evening concerts, coordinated by the city’s tourism board under director Ivana Kovačić.

The Creski semenj fair on the island of Cres takes place from 5 to 7 August. This historic market, first mentioned in a 1543 decree, gathers about 50 vendors offering Cres cheese, extra‑virgin olive oil, honey, jams, traditional pastries and other autochthonous products. Visitors can explore the old town, taste local specialties in restaurants, and view a dedicated exhibition on island cuisine at the Cres museum. Both events aim to showcase the islands’ medieval heritage and culinary traditions to locals and tourists alike.
