Croatian mayors Tomislav Katanović and Tomislav Tomašević allocate public funds to disputed projects

Križevci mayor Tomislav Katanović doubled the city’s media budget to €70,000 and awarded contracts to the newly formed NIT Consulting, owned by Valentina Gatarić, a candidate on his electoral list. The firm received a €12,000 agreement with the Križevci Business Center, of which €6,000 has been paid, despite the lack of a public tender. Katanović justified the spending by citing increased Facebook activity and promotional work for local events.

Zagreb mayor Tomislav Tomašević approved a €200,000 allocation for 27 veteran‑related associations for 2026‑2028. The largest single grant, €15,000, was given both to the Vukovar mothers’ group and to the far‑left network Mreža antifašistkinja Zagreb (MAZ), an organization linked to the Možemo party. The decision equated veteran support groups with groups described as “anti‑fascist” and sparked criticism over the use of public funds.
