Croatian Memorial Football Tournaments Honor Fallen Heroes

The 32nd Antun Batinić Memorial Tournament was staged on 8‑9 August at NK Elektra’s ground in Osijek. Organized by NK Elektra since 1993, the event commemorates former NK Osijek goalkeeper Antun Batinić, a volunteer and army officer killed in the Croatian War of Independence. Four local clubs – NK Elektra, NK Olimpija Osijek, ŠNK Višnjevac and NK Omladinac Petrijevci – competed in two‑half‑hour matches, with awards for the winners, fair‑play and individual performances.

In Pleternica, the “Predrag Marketanović” memorial futsal tournament, honoring the late Croatian defender of the First Guard Brigade, featured 18 teams. The competition concluded with the team Aspectus DoMini bo claiming first place, followed by MNK Hakla and Lumi. The event, organized by the Grbavica sports association, included a ceremony of wreath‑laying, a prayer service and local musical performances, and handed out food‑based prizes and trophies to the top three teams and standout players.
