Croatian minority leaders advocate for Serbia's EU accession

Participants at the 4th Meeting of the Croatian National Minority agreed that Serbia's accession to the European Union is in the best interest of Croats living in Serbia. Experts noted that EU membership would compel Serbia to fulfill its existing commitments regarding the protection of national minority rights.

Discussions highlighted a lack of adequate state and provincial funding for Croatian minority organizations within Serbia. While representatives noted recent improvements in funding due to initiatives from the Croatian government, concerns remain regarding the lack of reciprocity. Zdravka Bušić, President of the Committee of the Croatian Parliament for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia, stated that there is no parity in funding, noting that the Croatian minority in Serbia receives significantly less support compared to the Serbian minority in Croatia.
