Croatian municipalities issue warnings over ambrosia control

Local authorities in Mursko Središće and Belica are intensifying efforts to combat the spread of ambrosia, a potent natural allergen. In Mursko Središće, officials have issued a call to all landowners and users of agricultural and non-agricultural land to remove weeds and ambrosia, particularly before the flowering stage, to protect public health.

Landowners are expected to use agrotechnical, mechanical, or approved chemical methods to maintain their plots, including field edges, forests, and roadsides. While the municipal warden will initially issue warnings and set deadlines for compliance, failure to act may result in monetary fines.

In Belica, municipal leaders have indicated that following unsuccessful warnings, the next step will be the issuance of fines. The strict measures follow a 2007 Croatian mandate requiring the removal of ambrosia to prevent respiratory issues and severe allergic reactions caused by its airborne pollen.
