Croatian Olympic Committee elects Josip Varvodić as new president amid reform push

The Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) appointed Josip Varvodić as its new president following the resignation of long‑time leader Zlatko Mateša. The change comes after a series of scandals involving former officials, including former ski federation chief Vedran Pavlek, which prompted calls for a comprehensive overhaul of the organization.

Varvodić pledged to restore focus on athletes and coaches, tighten financial controls, and implement stricter criteria for public funding. The reform agenda includes a draft amendment to improve oversight of state money invested in sport and to ensure more transparent, sustainable financing.
