Croatian Parliament questions legality of Serbian Orthodox Church operations
Questions have been raised in the Croatian Parliament regarding the legality of the Serbian Orthodox Church's operations in Croatia. The controversy centers on a 2002 'Agreement of Common Interest' signed by former Prime Minister Ivica Račan with what critics describe as a non-existent 'SPC in Croatia'.
During a parliamentary session, Ante Prkačin submitted questions to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković concerning the validity of this agreement. Plenković stated he was not familiar with the document and committed to investigating the matter. The debate touches upon the legal distinction between the universal Catholic Church and national Orthodox churches, specifically questioning why the Serbian Orthodox Church, headquartered in Belgrade, operates as a national church within Croatia instead of the Croatian Orthodox Church.
