Croatian Parliament reconvenes amid opposition vote of confidence attempt

The Croatian Parliament is reconvening for its autumn session following a two-month summer break. A primary focus of the session is an opposition demand for a vote of confidence in Prime Minister Andrej Plenković’s government. Opposition parties, including the SDP, Možemo, and Most, intend to leverage recent ecological concerns in the Lika region to push for the government's resignation.

Despite the opposition's efforts, the parliamentary majority is expected to remain stable. Many non-HDZ deputies who support the current government may be incentivized to maintain the status quo to avoid early elections, which could result in the loss of parliamentary salaries before the scheduled 2028 elections.

The session agenda includes over 150 items, covering government legislative proposals, reports on European Council meetings, and discussions on inflation, healthcare, and social issues. Additionally, parliamentary clubs are expected to discuss revisions to the Rules of Procedure to improve debate efficiency.
