Croatian Party of Pensioners outlines measures to improve retiree welfare

The Croatian Party of Pensioners (HSU) has outlined several key measures and achievements aimed at improving the living conditions of elderly citizens and retirees across various regions in Croatia.

Key policy achievements highlighted by party representatives include a shift in the pension indexation formula from a 70:30 ratio to 85:15, effective July 1, 2025, to better align pensions with wage and price growth. Additionally, a permanent annual pension supplement based on years of service was established as a permanent right starting in 2025. As of January 1, 2026, penalties for early retirement were abolished for users aged 70 and older, and disability pensions were increased by 10 percent.

On a local level, the HSU is advocating for the abolition of pension tax, increased investment in care centers for the elderly, and better protection of retiree income through crisis measures. In regions such as Požega-Slavonia, the party supports local initiatives including free railway transport, subsidized medical examinations outside the county, and various social assistance programs such as holiday bonuses and one-time financial aid.
