Serbian President Vučić Announces Major Pension and Wage Hikes
President Aleksandar Vučić said Serbia will implement significant increases in pensions, public‑sector salaries and the minimum wage, stressing that the country has low public debt and the fastest growth rate in Europe. He linked the measures to demographic challenges, noting a loss of about 500,000 people over the past decade and a modest rise in births in the Pirot area – roughly 300 newborns so far, with an expected 550 by year‑end.
During a visit to the village of Temska and the Belmužijada festival in Svrljig, Vučić warned that a further 30 cm drop in the Danube’s water level would create a severe crisis. He called for greater investment in under‑developed municipalities, infrastructure upgrades, higher salaries for rural doctors (15‑20 % increase) and the launch of mobile pharmacies to improve health services in remote areas.
