Croatian police report assault in Zagorje and AI‑driven fraud scam in Varaždin

On 6 July, police in the Krapina‑Zagorje area arrested a 56‑year‑old man after he physically attacked an officer during a routine operation in Zlatari. According to the police report, the suspect pushed items off a table and struck a police officer, prompting officers to use physical force and restraints before detaining him. He has been placed in police custody and will face criminal charges for assaulting a public official.

A separate incident on 7 July involved a 64‑year‑old resident of Varaždin who was duped by a caller claiming to represent a Zagreb‑based company. The fraudster promised that artificial‑intelligence software had generated earnings of several thousand euros for the victim. Trusting the claim, the man shared his IBAN and installed a remote‑access app on his phone, after which thousands of euros were transferred from his account to unknown recipients. Police continue to investigate the scam and warn the public against installing such applications at the urging of strangers.
