Croatian students win bronze medals at International Biology and Chemistry Olympiads

Croatian representatives earned three bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad held in Vilnius, Lithuania, from 12‑19 July. Medals were claimed by Irena Ferić (XV Gymnasium, Zagreb), Lukas Dlačić and Marta Gojević (Vladimir Prelog Gymnasium, Zagreb), while Laura Vuljanić (Karlovac Gymnasium) received a prize for an outstanding result. The competition featured around 300 participants from about 80 countries, testing practical and theoretical skills in molecular biology, biochemistry, animal physiology, anatomy, systematics and computational biology.

At the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Croatian pupils secured two bronze medals. The winners were Leona Hajrizi (V. Gymnasium, Zagreb) and Nikolina Isabella Marija van Bregt (Fran Galović Gymnasium, Koprivnica). Amarie Bednjički Kovačićek earned an honorable mention, and Petar Brajković competed as part of the team. The event attracted a record 363 students from over 90 nations, with participants undergoing rigorous theoretical and experimental examinations lasting five hours each.
