Croatian tennis players eliminated at WTA Monterrey
All three Croatian representatives competing in the WTA tournament in Monterrey have been eliminated in the first round.
Antonia Ružić lost her opening match to Czech player Nikola Bartunkova with a score of 4-6, 3-6. Petra Marčinko also exited early after leading the first set against American Alicia Parks, eventually losing 6-2, 4-6, 4-6.
Donna Vekić, the 2023 Monterrey champion, was defeated by France's Diane Parry. After winning the first set in a tie-break (7-5), Vekić lost the subsequent sets 4-6 and 1-6. Vekić is currently on a five-match losing streak, with her last victory occurring in June at the Queen’s Club.
The players now shift their focus to final preparations for the US Open in New York.
