Croatian veterans gather for memorial sports tournament in Kastav

More than 200 former Croatian soldiers assembled in Kastav for the seventh Memorial Sports Tournament organized by the Association of Croatian War Veterans of the Homeland War. The event, held in the Matija Katalinić sports hall and the Slavko Stanić bowling alley, featured competitions in darts, bowling, pétanque and a traditional cooking contest. It honored fallen veterans from the Kastav area and missing soldier Rudolf Duplišak, with wreaths laid at a local monument and candles lit before the opening ceremony led by Kastav mayor Matej Mostarac.

A similar memorial mini‑football tournament was held in Brezje, bringing together ten teams and local football fans to remember Goran Kolar. Both gatherings emphasized community, remembrance and the role of sport in preserving the memory of those who served.
