Croatian volunteer fire departments celebrate 100th anniversaries

Two Croatian volunteer fire departments, DVD Šemovci and DVD Veliškovci, recently celebrated their 100th anniversaries with formal ceremonies.

DVD Šemovci, founded on October 2, 1926, with 13 original members, now consists of approximately 60 members, including many youths. The organization, located in the Municipality of Virje, held a ceremonial session attended by local officials, including Koprivnica-Križevci County Prefect Tomislav Golubić, to honor its century of service in protecting people and property.

Similarly, DVD Veliškovci marked its centenary with a celebration attended by roughly 160 guests. The event included a presentation of the society's history and a minute of silence for fallen firefighters. Officials from the Belišće Firefighting Community and the Croatian Firefighting Association attended to recognize the group's achievements, particularly the success of its youth division in national competitions. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards and recognitions to long-serving members.
