Croatian Youth Rank Fourth in Europe for Median Net Wealth

A Eurostat and European Central Bank analysis finds that the median net assets of 16‑ to 34‑year‑olds in Croatia amount to €82,000, placing the country fourth behind Malta (€257,500), Luxembourg (€135,000) and Belgium (€97,200). The European median for this age group is €24,600. By contrast, typical young adults hold €53,500 in Italy, €27,700 in France, €23,700 in Spain and only €17,600 in Germany.

Experts say the high Croatian figure reflects extensive home‑ownership, strong parental financial support, inheritances and early access to housing loans rather than high wages – the average single adult without children earns €17,256 annually. Professor Fabian Pfeffer notes that “the richness of young people does not reflect only their income and saving ability.” The findings highlight how national housing markets and family wealth shape young adults’ net worth across Europe.
