Croatia's Kostrena adopts tourism plan as apartment owners add wellness amenities

The municipal council of Kostrena, a coastal town near Rijeka, approved a Destination Management Plan covering 2025‑2029. The plan aims to extend the tourist season, improve accommodation quality, and mitigate mass tourism. Measures include developing accessible beach areas, introducing electric‑bike rentals, a digital parking‑availability system, and rebuilding parts of the waterfront promenade.

At the same time, private accommodation owners across Croatia are increasingly investing in wellness facilities—such as private saunas, massage pools and other spa‑like amenities—to differentiate their listings and appeal to guests seeking a sense of luxury. These upgrades are intended to increase bookings year‑round, extend the season beyond the summer months, and command higher rental rates.
