Croatia's Lazareti and Rovinj host film screening and tribute exhibition honoring local artists

The Lazareti Art Workshop in Zagreb will hold a special film evening on 17 July at 21:00 in its Lađa X space. Organized by the workshop’s resident cats, the event will screen the 60‑minute documentary *O mačkama i ljudima* by veterinarian‑filmmaker Sunčica Ana Veldić. The film, produced in 2025, examines the relationship between people and free‑roaming cats on Croatian islands, and includes the director’s personal reflections on animal care.

In Rovinj, the Antonio Gandusio theatre foyer opened an exhibition dedicated to Ljubica Janković Lazarić, a pioneering Croatian documentary filmmaker and painter who passed away in 2024. Part of the Rovinj Art & More festival, the show displays around 200 of her paintings and presents screenings of her 12 documentary films twice daily (10:00‑12:00 and 20:00‑22:00) until 22 July. Lazarić created more than two hundred documentaries and an extensive body of visual art, drawing inspiration from her travels across Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States. The exhibition, curated by Lada Luketić, will donate proceeds to a scholarship for art students.
