Croatia's Lika‑Senj County Lags Behind National Life Expectancy Average

A new analysis by the Croatian State Statistics Office shows that the expected life expectancy in Lika‑Senj County is 77.3 years, 1.7 years lower than the national average of 79.0 years. The county therefore ranks among the lowest in Croatia, alongside Osijek‑Baranja and Krapina‑Zagorje.

Across the country, coastal and capital regions enjoy longer lives. Dubrovnik‑Neretva leads with 80.8 years, followed by Istria (80.6) and Međimurje (80.4). The lowest figure is recorded in Virovitica‑Podravska at 76.1 years. Compared with the European Union, whose average life expectancy is 81.5 years according to Eurostat, Croatia still trails by about two years. The data underline persistent regional health disparities linked to access to care, lifestyle and socio‑economic conditions.
