Croatian business group UGP seeks clarity on tax tiers and shop closures

The Croatian association Udruga Glas poduzetnika (UGP) has urged the government to explain how it distinguishes "real" sole traders—those with turnover up to €40,000—from other artisans, and to publish the analysis that underpins any increased tax burden for higher‑turnover entrepreneurs.

UGP also demanded that the State Inspectorate and Ministry of Finance provide data on how many commercial premises have been closed for fiscal‑related irregularities, the specific offences involved, the duration of closures, and whether milder measures such as warnings or fines were considered. The group argues that immediate shutdowns for minor violations cause disproportionate damage to owners, employees, suppliers, customers, and state tax revenue, and calls for transparent, proportional criteria applied uniformly across Croatia.

In both cases, UGP seeks published analyses and clear guidelines to ensure equal treatment of businesses and to prevent unnecessary division among entrepreneurs.
