Croatia's state agency disburses over €4 million in child support payments

The Croatian Agency for Workers' Claims (Agencija za osiguranje radničkih tražbina) took over the payment of temporary child support (alimentacija) for children whose custodial parents failed to pay. In the reporting year it disbursed €4,056,042 to 3,342 children, following the enactment of a new Temporary Maintenance Law that broadened the agency’s remit.

The agency recorded €4,129,628 in claims for temporary maintenance, of which €4,126,054 was principal and €3,574 interest, but only €1,765 of principal was recovered for the state budget. In the same period the agency also paid €3,336,960 in workers' claims for 816 employees of 62 insolvent employers, and reclaimed €2,236,614 back to the state, primarily for unpaid wages, holiday pay and severance.

These figures highlight the expanded role of the agency in both social welfare and labor‑rights enforcement under recent legislative changes.
