Crocodile Attack Kills Tourist in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

A 28‑year‑old Mexican tourist, Irving Mauricio, was dragged into the sea and killed by a roughly 3.7‑metre (12‑ft) crocodile while taking photos near the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa. The attack occurred near the Boca Negra estuary, and his companion raised the alarm as the animal seized him.

Civil protection teams, Jalisco state firefighters and the Mexican Navy conducted a night‑long search; his body was recovered the following day floating several hundred metres from the attack site. Forensic officials ruled drowning as the primary cause of death, noting deep bite wounds on his limbs.

Authorities captured another large crocodile in the same area, are conducting forensic analysis to determine any link to the fatal incident, and plan to relocate the animal rather than euthanize it. Officials have warned residents and visitors to respect signage and avoid entering estuary waters, especially at dawn and dusk.
