Crocodile kills 28-year-old on Puerto Vallarta beach

A large crocodile attacked a 28‑year‑old man on Marina Vallarta beach near the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa on the evening of 28 June 2026. The victim, identified as a Mexican tourist, was pulled underwater and later pronounced dead; his body was recovered about 12 hours later.

Two American tourists from California attempted a rescue, first assuming the man had been caught in a current and then trying to reach him in a paddle‑less kayak. Their efforts were delayed and ultimately unsuccessful. Witnesses reported warning signs for jellyfish, stingrays and crocodiles, but said the crocodile symbol was confused with an iguana, and there were no clear swimming prohibitions. The incident occurred at the same spot where a 2022 crocodile attack injured two Colorado visitors. Local authorities and the hotel have not yet issued an official statement.
