Crofton memorial walk to honor victim of toxic drug crisis

Chadd Cawson will host an annual memorial walk in Crofton on August 31 to honor his sister, Jeni, who was lost to the toxic drug crisis. The event is scheduled to coincide with International Overdose Awareness Day.

Originally started in Winnipeg in 2018, the memorial walk has moved across Canada, with Cawson choosing locations near water to reflect his sister's interests. The event has transitioned from a call for action into a space for community healing for those impacted by the drug crisis.

The upcoming gathering in Crofton is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the green space near the Crofton sign. Attendees will have access to resources, including naloxone kits and demonstrations on their proper use, as well as purple ribbons and other commemorative items. The evening is also expected to feature performances by the Quwutsun Tz.
