Cropafy delivers prosthetics and orthotics to rural Yucatán
The Regional Center for Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Functional Aids of Yucatán (Cropafy) has delivered specialized medical devices to the interior of the state for the first time in its 26-year history. During an event in Ticul, the center distributed 42 supports to residents of the region, including Ticul and surrounding municipalities such as Tekax, Muna, and Oxkutzcab.
The distribution included 31 customized orthoses and prostheses, as well as 11 functional aids consisting of wheelchairs, walkers, and canes. The production of these devices involved a joint investment of 575,334 pesos, funded by DIF Yucatán, the State Public Beneficence Patrimony Administration, local municipalities, and families. An additional 18,000 pesos was allocated for functional aids.
Wendy Méndez Naal, Honorary President of DIF Yucatán, stated that decentralizing these services from Mérida aims to ensure that geographic distance does not act as a barrier to specialized care. The initiative follows previous assessment workshops held in April to identify local needs.
