Cross pendants emerge as a fashion trend among youth

There is a growing trend among young people, particularly in cities like Berlin, of wearing cross pendants as jewelry. While the cross is the central symbol of Christianity, the resurgence of this accessory does not necessarily indicate a return to religious faith.

Observations in Berlin show teenagers and young adults frequently wearing these necklaces. Experts and fashion commentators suggest the trend is driven largely by fashion rather than religious conviction. Some individuals wear them as pure fashion accessories influenced by male fashion icons on social media platforms like Instagram, while others may wear them as an expression of faith or as inherited items. Christian Fichter, a professor of business psychology at Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences in Zurich, is examining the psychological and consumer behavior aspects behind this trend.
