Cross River association condemns Senate President Akpabio’s remarks

The Development Association of Cross River State (DACRISS) has condemned controversial remarks attributed to Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding the status of Cross River State. In a statement signed by Chief John Offiong, the association expressed concern over a video in which Akpabio allegedly questioned the state’s littoral status, population, and political identity in relation to neighboring Akwa Ibom State.

DACRISS described the remarks, if authentic, as reckless and insensitive, arguing that the Senate President should be promoting national unity rather than causing division. Regarding the state’s maritime territory, the association maintained that geographical boundaries should be settled through scientific and legal processes, citing existing federal surveys and hydrographic charts that support Cross River’s coastal status.
