Cross River Governor distributes N450m to SPAR fire victims
Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has presented N25 million cheques to 18 business owners affected by a recent fire at the SPAR shopping mall in Calabar. The total intervention amounts to N450 million.
The funds were provided by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to assist the victims in rebuilding their livelihoods and businesses. Governor Otu described the financial aid as a “critical lifeline” for those impacted by the accident.
During the presentation at the Governor’s Office, Otu emphasized the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, noting that the informal sector is a vital engine for the state’s economy. He also credited the intervention to the positive multiplier effects of the First Lady’s recent visit to the state for the National Community Food Bank Programme.
